i54 is a 96 hectare major employment site at Wobaston Road, Pendeford on the boundary of South Staffordshire and Wolverhampton. Earmarked for a technology-based business park, complete with its own motorway access junction, it will create around 6,000 jobs once completed.
Wolverhampton City Council is working with Advantage West Midlands and South Staffordshire District Council as the principal planning authority on the site which is continuing to take shape.
Site preparation works have been completed including the removal of contaminated soil, the creation of earthworks to form development platforms, the construction of a site spine road and the provision of drainage and landscaping.
The major highway improvement works to Wobaston Road and Stafford Road, which will enhance Wobaston Road and improve junctions along Stafford Road, are also being progessed.
A detailed joint marketing strategy for the i54 site will be decided in the summer when a development company is appointed to take the project on.
The masterplan for the site sets out a vision for a £2.5 million sq ft development which will provide first-class facilities for businesses and help create more than 6,000 jobs by 2020.
i54 will become a site of regional, national and international importance and will provide world class employment opportunities for people within Wolverhampton and the Black Country at the gateway to the Wolverhampton Telford Technology Corridor.
